Possum-Cam, Eventually Flying Squirrel-Cam
A completely unbuilt wildlife camera project inspired by one possum sighting and a much stranger flying squirrel story.
I did not build Possum-Cam. There is no Raspberry Pi, no detection
model, no dashboard, and no suspiciously accurate cat classifier hiding in
the crawlspace.
This is a pipe dream inspired by the Field Note: The Possum Incident,
where the real story is less "wildlife computer vision" and more "why has
my housing history included both a possum and a flying squirrel?"
The actual project
Flying Squirrel Cam. Obviously.
The requirements are straightforward: detect a flying squirrel, preserve the
footage, establish whether it has a tiny agenda, and avoid turning an
unbuilt joke into a résumé bullet. Current implementation status: entirely
aspirational.
