STATUSstill figuring some things out
Most recently, I worked on a team shipping a full-stack platform. My part ran across a React and TypeScript front end, Python services, AWS infrastructure, and the branding for the website. That is a useful kind of work because the interface, the services, the deployment, and the public face all have to agree with each other. The other through-line is AI enablement, developer tooling, and teaching: the gap between a complicated system and the people expected to use it. I build things, explain them, write the documentation, and make the training less painful than it could have been. That has included GitHub Copilot onboarding, central enterprise DevAssist documentation, an innersource resource repo, learning modules on AI security, and guidance for tools that keep changing underneath us. It has also meant MCP services and secure AI architecture, because someone has to ask where the permissions went before the demo does. Before that, I was an apprentice in robotics software, contributing to Java and Spring applications and production support. Before engineering it was restaurants, and before that it was the military. It is not a tidy career arc. It is, however, the one I have. I write about what actually happened when I built something, including the parts that did not work the first time. There is also a possum in the margins of this site. Nobody has fully explained why.
